In this issue:
How to Handle Discouragement
Most months we focus on the positive, but we also want
to be realistic. Sometimes it feels like we are just
treading water, not really making progress and barely
avoiding drowning under the waves. There are weeks when
we have been spit on, punched, kicked, hit, been to
the principals office, the social workers
office, or the doctors office just one time too
many. We feel discouraged and hopeless.
It is at these points that we have to
be sure that we have a strong foundation to go back
to. If we have spent all of our time responding to crisis
and no time on personal and mental health for ourselves,
we probably will not be able to move forward and we
give in to despair. But if we have supports in place,
we can go back to the basics, re-evaluate and rebuild.
Building a foundation takes time. The clients who work
through the Personal Foundation Program with me take
several months to get things in order but they can handle
a lot more because their daily lives are built on a
strong base. For them, having a strong Person Foundation
means:
1. Clearing Unresolved Matters
2. Restoring Your Integrity
3. Getting All of Your Needs Met
4. Extending Your Boundaries
5. Raising Your Personal Standards
6. Eliminating What You Are Tolerating
7. Coming From Positives
8. Resolving Key Family Relationships
9. Developing a Supportive Community
10. Re-Orienting Around Your True Values
Maybe you are feeling discouraged. Hopeless?
Helpless? Want to give up? Take a few minutes to think
about your foundation. Which of the above is missing
or needs work? Maybe you need to call a friend, make
a plan, or get a coach to help you walk through it.
Regardless of how you do it, I guarantee that if you
get these elements in place your life will be better.
Wishing you a hope filled month!
